Community Forums

Six community forums are being established across the Stratford on Avon District. Warwickshire Association of Local Councils, Warwickshire County Council and Stratford on Avon District Council are working together to ensure that Parish & Town Councils are represented on the Community Forums and are able to play a full role in their work.

Within the district there are over 100 Parish and Town Councils and parish meetings. It is proposed that, in order to enable the community forums to be able to operate successfully, Parish & Town Councils within a community forum area work together in small groups or clusters and identify someone to represent them.

The purposes of the Community Forum are to:

Help shape the public services in the locality and ensure that these services respond to local needs. This includes the production of a plan identifying agreed key priorities and sharing information about the public services offered in the locality including key service contacts.

Agreed proposed actions affecting the locality and identify local priorities. This includes working with the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team in identifying priorities for the area. The Forum is also the PACT (Partners and Communities Together) panel for the locality.

Provide the opportunity for the community to question and challenge public sector service providers about the services that are delivered locally.

Ensure that relevant information is shared and two-way communication takes place between public sector agencies and local people and organisations.

Membership of the community forum would typically include:
Town and Parish Council representatives
District Councillors for the relevant wards
The County Councillor(s) for the relevant County electoral division(s)
Warwickshire Police
Warwickshire Police Authority
Warwickshire Primary Care Trust
People living and/or working in the locality

Issues considered by the community forums will reflect local concerns and might for example include: environmental cleanliness; traffic and road safety; facilities and activities for young people and children: road and pavement maintenance; crime and community safety; public transport; health and social care services; sports, leisure and cultural facilities.

The meeting for Henley/Studley will be held on Wednesday 10th September 2008 at 6.00pm in Studley Village Hall
Everyone is welcome to attend

Local Involvement Network (LINk) for Warwickshire

Local Involvement Networks have replaced the Patient and Public Involvement forums which were abolished on 31st March this year. The Government recognised that more people should have more choice and a louder voice about the services they receive not only from the NHS but social care as well. It was recognised that people tended not to use just one service exclusively and care packages could involve both health and social care.

Anyone can be part of a LINk and the Government wants to ensure that the new LINk represents everyone in the community. This means that all different groups and people in Warwickshire will be able to join in and have their say.

LINks will be set up to ensure there are different ways people can be involved in shaping local services such a using surveys, attending meetings or via email. Others may want to represent their community or organisation.

STUDLEY YOUTH CLUB MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Management Committee meets four times a year to discuss work undertaken by the Youth Club with both the District worker and the leader in charge giving their reports on what has been achieved throughout the year.

The Bursar gives her report on the financial state of the Youth Club and the young people on the Committee give their views on how the Youth Club should be run and what future projects they wish to do.

Some of the projects which are being run by the Youth Club for 2008 and 2009 include Drama, Dance, Keep fit and Martial arts. The Circus Skills training and demonstration will take place on Saturday 8th March between 10am and 4pm. This is free of charge and everyone is welcome to take part in learning how to juggle or walk the tightrope as well as many others.

These projects will run alongside those already in progress i.e. The music, football and photography projects.

There is an after school club in the Youth Centre on a Monday and Wednesday these are fun by both the Youth Service and Connexions.

If you have an interest in the youth of the village and don’t mind giving a little of your time four times a year we would like more people to join the committee. We are looking for someone who has treasurer or secretarial skills but anyone is welcome.

Silver Jubilee, Youth Achievement and Millennium Shield Awards

Each year the Parish Council present the Silver Jubilee Shield, Youth Achievement Award and the Millennium Shield to members of the community for their work in making Studley a better place to live. The awards this year will be presented at the Chairman's Ball of Studley Parish Council on 1st December 2007. This is the first time this event has taken place. It was thought by the Parish Council to make the presentation more of a formal evening as usually it takes place at one of our meetings.

This year the Millennium Shield which is a group award, will be given to the Fire Fighters. They are an efficient and multi award winning team of men who are a vital part of the village.

The Silver Jubilee Shield will be awarded to Denis Charlton. He has been a stalwart of the village for many years. He has just recently retired from Studley Village Hall Management Committee and was instrumental in getting the lottery bid to build the new hall. Many will have attended plays in the Village Hall when Denis was a member of the Swan Players. He has worked tirelessly for the village and still continues to do so, giving up his time on a Monday morning to read short stories written by him to visitors to the Coffee Shop in the village hall.

The Youth Achievement Award will be presented to Rosie Adcock. She has been a member of the Brownies and Guides for many years and is now a young leader giving freely of her time. The youth of the village often get a 'bad press' but as Rosie has proved there are many who actually work very hard and the Parish Council recognise this fact through the presentation of the award.

5 GOOD REASONS TO COMPOST AT HOME

  1. Reduce the amount of rubbish you put out for collection and send to landfill
  2. Produce a fantastic free fertiliser for your garden, vegetable plots, patio planters and hanging baskets.
  3. Save money by reducing the amount of compost you have to buy for your garden.
  4. Help to reduce the production of methane - when organic waste is sent to landfill, it rots without oxygen producing methane - a powerful greenhouse gas which contributes to global warming.
  5. Save time and petrol on taking garden waste to the tip.

Compost bins can be purchased at subsidised prices. The Recycle Now Home Compost programme is a partnership between Warwickshire County Council and WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme).

Three designs of bin are available, starting at £8 including delivery.

For more information or to order a compost bin visit the website or call 0845 077 0757

Household Waste Sites

As Biffa will be catching up on Christmas and New Year rubbish collections there will not be a bulky waste collection on Saturday 5th January 2008. The next collection will take place on Saturday 2nd February 2008.

Due to the loss of Crossgate Tip in Redditch for residents of Studley, the Parish Council together with help from Stratford District Council have arranged for the collection of bulky waste from Pool Road Car Park on the first Saturday in every month. The first collection will be on Saturday, 1st September 2007 from 10.00am until 12 noon.

If anyone has any bulky item they wish to dispose of it can be taken to the car park. This service is free of charge and is being subsidised by Studley Parish Council. We feel that it will be of great benefit to everyone especially those who have a problem getting to the tip in Stratford.

It is for a trial period at present to enable us to ascertain if the service will be utilised. We hope that it will prove to be a success.
