SAVE OUR FIRE STATION - IT IS NOT TOO LATE!!
As Long as there is an Appliance in Studley we will keep Fighting
Decision made on 20th July to close Studley Fire Station.
In the future we will have to rely on appliances coming from Alcester and in some cases Redditch but as Hereford and Worcester are proposing to cut an appliance in Redditch help cannot always be guaranteed.
We have not given up and the Parish Council urge everyone to write to our MP Nadhim Zahawi and the leader of Warwickshire County Council Cllr Alan Farnell.
It is so important that we keep up the pressure.

Dedication of the Flag Pole, Studley Village Hall - 17th April 2010

A flag pole kindly donated to the Village by the family of the late Jack Chambers was dedicated at a Ceremony on Saturday 17th April at Studley Village Hall. It was very well attended and it was great to see the Studley Cricket Eleven attend before their match on Saturday. I’m sure Jack would have been delighted by the turn out.
He was a much loved and well respected member of the Community and remembered by many in the village and was a legendary teacher at the old Studley National School, situated where Bruno’s bakery now stands in the High Street. When that closed the school was transferred to the Junior School in New Road and he became Deputy Head.
He was always interested in sport and was a life-long member of Studley Cricket Club, mainly remembered as a firm umpire and for many years he was President of the Club. His judicial approach to life perhaps caused him to be elected a Magistrate and he served on the bench for about 20 years. After coming out of the services after the war he helped to found Studley British Legion where he was Treasurer.
He was a member of Studley Parish Council and was Chairman in 1953 when the previous Village Hall was opened by Mrs Florence Allen. He was also a member of Alcester Rural District Council up to its amalgamation with others to form Stratford on Avon District Council in 1974.
It was a day to remember for Mrs Priscilla Cooke and members of her family.
Turning Empty Properties into Affordable Homes
Responding to the communities and its partners needs Stratford-on Avon District Council recognised the need to create more affordable housing for local people in its Corporate Strategy 2008-2012.
In response to this need a range of initiatives have been launched to bring into use some of the 600 plus properties kept empty by owners for more than 6 months. One of the initiatives, the Empty Homes Assistance Grant provides funding to assist owners of disused houses in bringing them back to a habitable standard.
To find out more click here.
Alternatively owners of empty properties who would like further information and guidance regarding bringing their properties back into residential use or would like further details of the Empty Homes Assistance Grant should contact Carol Roberts, Empty Homes Officer at Stratford District Council on 01789 260866, e-mail or visit www.stratford.gov.uk for further information.
Studley Parish Council Community Emergency Plan
This plan has been developed by Studley Parish Council in conjunction with Warwickshire Emergency Planning Unit and Stratford on Avon District Council.
Nearly all emergencies affecting the local community will be dealt with routinely by a joint response from the emergency services, local authorities and utility companies. However, in extreme conditions such as snow and flooding, there is a possibility that the emergency services and other agencies may be overwhelmed and not be able to reach us immediately. In such circumstances, the initial response will rely entirely on local people. This plan will enable the community to respond to a major incident/emergency, whilst awaiting the assistance of the Emergency Services and the County or District Council.
Read or download Emergency Plan.
Stratford Core Strategy Consultation
The District Council has published a draft Core Strategy for consultation and comment. It puts forward a wide range of development sites to meet housing, employment and community needs, as well as policies to manage the location, form and quality of development.
A number of "drop in" sessions have been arranged for anyone who is interested to discuss the document with planning officers from the District Council.
STUDLEY COMMON NATURE RESERVE
Did you know that Studley has its very own Nature Reserve? It was opened in September 2008 and covers some 4.3 hectares of land on the north side of St Judes Avenue.

Studley Improvement Partnership (SIP) concerns
Over the last two years members of Studley Improvement Partnership have been having regular meetings with officers of both Stratford District Council and Warwickshire County Council to discuss ongoing problems and issues that are affecting Studley.
These meetings often consist of walking round the village inspecting areas of particular concern. As a result of these "walkabouts" a list of problems has been compiled by a member of SIP. This list has been a way of monitoring what has actually been done and what has still to be done by the relevant authorities.
It shows what work has been carried out and what still needs to be done. New work continues to be added to the list when necessary.
Review this list of problems and concerns.

Bulky Waste Collections
Pool Road Car Park - 1st Saturday each month - 10am - 12 Noon
For future reference the January collection will not take place due to Verdant catching up on Christmas collections.
Some householders just dumped their rubbish on the car park even though they knew the waste truck was not there. This has happened again in February. The truck could not come as Verdant were catching up on collections due to the adverse weather we have been experiencing. Again rubbish was left despite notices advising people the collection had been cancelled.
The Parish Council has been charged extra money for this 'Fly' tipping to be disposed of. If this happens again we will have to look at withdrawing the service.
ARE YOU ONE OF THE OFFENDERS?
In Case of Emergency
The following information has been received from the Ambulance Service:
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.
The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency).. The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call.
He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose.
In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE'.
For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.

Why NOW is the Best Time to Compost at Home
Stratford-on-Avon District Council new recycling service, when fully implemented from April 2009, will include food composting service in your green bin. Until then, here are some useful facts and tips about composting at home and reducing biodegradable waste going to landfill.
A staggering 60% of the rubbish we generate is biodegradable!
Composting your bio-degradable waste at home means considerably less rubbish has to be collected and transported to disposal sites plus you have the compost to use on your own garden.
- Compost bins and heaps - take garden waste and uncooked vegetable and fruit scraps from the kitchen and can produce a compost that is useful in the garden.
- Wormeries - take cooked and uncooked vegetable and fruit scraps and some small amounts of meat scraps. They produce fine compost and a liquid plant feed that when diluted with water can be used to feed pot plants and hanging baskets.
- Digesters - take all kitchen scraps and plate scraps, uncooked or cooked, including meat, fish, bones, dairy products and fruit and vegetable remains. Digesters do not produce any compost, they simply provide a way to dispose of kitchen scraps without putting them in the bin by turning them into water, carbon dioxide and nutrients.
These methods and practices contribute towards;
- lower transportation costs
- lower use of non renewable fuel
- less pollution
- fewer lorries on our roads
- less pollution from landfill site and means that our requirements for these sites will be reduced
Autumn tips on composting:
- Problem: too many autumn leaves
Solution: Leaves take a long time to break-down and therefore add them sparingly to the compost bin or heaps. The smaller the leaves, the better they will break-down, so try to cut them up with the blades of your lawnmower before composting. Leaf mould is a fabulous, cheap and easy to create soil conditioner. Information about making leaf mould can be found on the BBC website - Problem: too much windfall fruit
Solution: Squash the fruit to help it break-down and place it on your compost heap mixed in with dry materials such as cardboard, fallen leaves, wood chippings, lavatory rolls and tea bags to trap air and to increase decomposition in your heap.
Please note that Household waste recycling centres will still be accepting green waste. To find your nearest site click here.

Household Waste Sites
Due to the loss of Crossgate Tip in Redditch for residents of Studley, the Parish Council together with help from Stratford District Council have arranged for the collection of bulky waste from Pool Road Car Park on the first Saturday in every month. The first collection will be on Saturday, 1st September 2007 from 10.00am until 12 noon.
If anyone has any bulky item they wish to dispose of it can be taken to the car park. This service is free of charge and is being subsidised by Studley Parish Council. We feel that it will be of great benefit to everyone especially those who have a problem getting to the tip in Stratford.
It is for a trial period at present to enable us to ascertain if the service will be utilised. We hope that it will prove to be a success.
